Insulated Cabin Office

The way we all work has seen substantial changes in the last few years. A large number of people’s jobs have changed to work from home arrangements. This was the case for the clients who commissioned this project and discovered that they faced some complications.

No dedicated office space in a family home with young children makes Zoom meetings and conference calls an interesting challenge, as many people will know…

The solution? an outside office. separated from the house, insulated against noise and the cold of winter with plenty of natural and electric light as well as power for computers and a 3D printer. The workspace is heated by a 5 kilowatt diesel heater mounted on the rear outside wall with vents under the desk. It can make the space toasty and warm in any weather in less than 15 minutes, and once the space has been heated, the insulation means that the heater can be switched off again to save fuel. The client measured that they used less than 8 litres of fuel last winter despite having to heat the building for work 5 days a week.

Once completed, this 10’x8’ created a quiet space to complete work efficiently and with far less stress, allowing the family to spend more quality time together overall.
